Menorca offers a wide range of cultural and leisure or, as well, nature possibilities to enjoy it, but before delighting us with them it is good to know the alternatives to reach the island and, also, to know when is the best time of the year to visit the island in relation to the type of activity that interests you most.

Access roads

Naturally, Menorca can be reached either by boat or by plane.

The airport is located in Mahón, in the eastern part of the island, and by boat you will either reach the port of Mahón (one of the largest natural harbors in the world) or that of Ciutadella.

If you take your own vehicle or if time is not a problem for you, then the boat will be your best option. If, on the contrary, you are not going to spend many days in Menorca or prefer a quick trip and rent a car at the destination, the plane will be the right means of transport to choose.

However, if you want to spend a unique experience on the high seas, we recommend you arrive on the island with the boat that arrives at the port of Mahón and get up early to see the sunrise just when you are arriving in Menorca. I assure you it is a unique experience.

Accommodation

Menorca offers a wide variety of accommodation, from apartments to hotels, through rural accommodation or camping sites. Of course, in high season it is difficult to find accommodation since the island does not have as many hotel beds as Mallorca or Ibiza since it is smaller than the first and is more protected than the second in terms of constructions. Remember that we are talking about the only island in the Balearic Islands that is a Biosphere Reserve.

Transport

Transportation is no problem in Menorca given the size of the island (45 km from Mahón to Ciutadella, the two most important cities on the island, one at each end of it). Therefore, it is very easy to move by car, motorcycle or bike. Public transport in summer covers the entire island and you can quickly reach any urbanized point, but if your goal is to visit virgin beaches at your pace or discover the places that most tourists do not go to, it would be advisable that you would rent a car or a motorcycle or, if you are fit for it, a bike.

When to travel

Normally the months of July and August are the usual choice of the people during the high summer season, to come to Menorca. Nevertheless if you can choose when to take your vacation we recommend June or September. The weather is fantastic, there are not so many people and the prices are better.

Menorca in June

As we said before, this month is one of our favorites to visit the island. It is the second month in which there are fewer tourists (almost as in September) and the average temperature is 21 degrees with highs somewhat below 30 degrees, making the weather very pleasant. In addition, statistically, it is one of the months in which it rains less in Menorca, with only two days. You can also enjoy the Fiestas de Ciutadella, famous throughout Spain, where you can see the native Menorcan horses.

Menorca in July

In July the influx of tourists increases significantly, and it is already more difficult to find accommodation if you decide to come at the last minute. It starts to get hotter and the places and restaurants are usually full, therefore, it would be advisable to book.

In return, you will have fantastic parties practically every weekend and all the entertainment venues open if you like to spend the night.

Menorca in August

August is the summer month in Menorca par excellence. It is when there is more influx of tourists and the hottest. It is already essential to book for any activity you would fancy do or to any restaurant you would like to go to. The local festivities continue every weekend and, again, the entertainment venues are full and with a lot of “march”.

Menorca in September

Our second recommendation after June is the month of September. It stands out for an average temperature of 22.4 degrees and a maximum that rarely exceeds 30 degrees. The sea water is hot after the hottest months and it is very nice to go to the beach since you will not find any overcrowded. In addition, the Mahón festivities close the festive calendar of the island and you can enjoy a few days of a great atmosphere.

But I warn you, be careful when you go to Menorca as it is an island that knows very well how to find its way to the heart of its visitors.
