What to do in Menorca III - Menorca in winter

This month we are going to tell you about the real Menorca, the one enjoyed by Menorcans. And it's not the one with beaches, sand, cocktails and holidays. We are talking about Menorca in winter.

That the Menorcans love their island and keep it as pure as possible is nothing new. It is true that Menorca is a land of the sea and many Menorcans enjoy a little boat and going sailing, but there is one season of the year that is wonderful and that few people from outside the island know about. We are talking about winter.

After the autumn rains, the island turns an emerald green that has nothing to envy to the colour of Ireland or Scotland and, in exchange, we have an enviable temperature. As I'm writing these lines I'm wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt and it's almost 20 degrees and today is December 23rd!

Plenty to see within walking distance

It doesn't matter if you live in Mahón, in the east of the island, in Ciutadella, in the west or in any of the inland villages. Just a few minutes away you are sure to find a path that will take you inland, along the coast or, most probably, both, and will delight your winter walks.

It is not unusual to start in a valley and end up bordering a cliff or a beach along the coast, that is how spectacular and eclectic the easternmost island of the Balearics is.

Once again, the Camí de Cavalls

In a previous article, we talked about and documented the island's Camí de Cavalls and explained that it is precisely this path that you can take at the beginning and then get lost along the many paths that go into the interior of the island.

There are also the "old" paths between villages. These are called in Menorquin "Cami vell de..." and the name of the village. These are the old roads that used to connect the villages and it is a delight to get lost along them among the green fields dotted with the white of the typical Menorcan country houses.
